Managementitis – Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Cures (man-ij-muh nt i-tis) Noun. The fear of managing, or the inability to successfully manage, a challenging but valuable employee. We've all had them—the staffer who just can't turn in his time sheet on time, needs to talk about her cats’ medical problems for several hours each day, or listens intently to directions and then quietly repeats the mistakes you just discussed—again. Yet she’s the one who communicates best with clients or the board, writes like Hemingway, or connects with animals like Dr. Doolittle. He’s valuable to your mission, but disruptive to the staff. This session will explore the fear of managing, or the inability to successfully manage, a challenging but valuable employee, and provide workshop participants with tips and tricks for appreciating and/or modifying the quirks of a valuable staffer (or two). Presenters: Barbara Carr, Executive Director, SPCA Serving Erie County; Holly Hazard, Senior Vice President, Programs and Innovations
