3
Corn Growing September And October 2002-2003
4
First we planted corn seeds. First
6
Next We saw roots and shoots grow.
8
Then We watered the corn plants every day.
10
We also We also gave the corn plants sun energy every day.
12
Also We measured the corn plants in millimeters.
15
Sometimes Sometimes the corn plants died.

Solar Energy October 2002
20
The Solar Cookers We cooked hotdogs by the sun energy.
23
Science Day At MCC November 1 st, 2002 Elementary, Irving
24
Chemistry-slime First we had bowl and a cup of glue and we had a small cup of h2o and we had some food coloring. Then we poured the h20 in. Then we stirred it with our fingers. Next, we poured a small cup of glue. Then we added three drops of food coloring. Finally it got done the solution, and we played with it for a long time
27
Geology-Explosion Volcanoes First we got to pick a little bottle of baking soda. Then we got some lemon juice and poured it in. Then we got a lid and put it on and we tried to shake it and the lid would pop off and explode, but sometimes we didn’t shake too hard and it wouldn’t pop off. It happened because it trapped a gas.
30
Chemistry-The Mad Scientist in the Lab. First the mad scientist put a chemical in a bottle. Then he got a match and put it in the bottle and he turned off the light and it blew up. Then he got some elephant’s toothpaste and put it in another bottle. Then he got some chemicals and put them in and it foamed for a long time and it wouldn’t stop.
32
Chemistry-Silly Putty First we used 2Tbs. Of white glue.1 Tbs. Of liquid starch and 2-3 drops of food coloring and some h2o. Then we poured the h2o in the bowl and then we poured the white glue in. Then we added 2-3 drops of food coloring and we stirred it and let it sit there for 5-7 minute. Then we picked it up and played with it.
35
Chemistry-Bubbles We made bubbles that were all different sizes. We made them with the water and glycerin and how the air blew it. We had so much fun that everybody wanted a turn, and the college student said that we had to share. One of the bubbles that I made was so big that everybody said I did good.
37
Geology-Volcano Lava First we got to choose a partner. Then one of each partner had to pick a vanilla or chocolate. Then we got a cup of water. The chocolate got a lot of water and the vanilla got a little bit of water. The chocolate would just go down and the vanilla would go up like a mountain.
40
Geology-Baby Powder First we got some rocks and put them in a bowl and we smashed them until they looked like powder. Then we kept smashing them and we put cologne in it and get a bag and put our powder in it. They taught us about the powder that we had and then we got to keep it.
43
Geology-Mining First we had to wear goggles and had a hammer. Then we were hitting the rocks so we could see what was inside them. Next the college students gave us a bag so we could put the kinds of rock that we wanted in it. Finally we got to take it home and we kept it, and some were copper, and rocks that were made to make nickels.
46
Geology-Rock Salt and Minerals. First we got to pick out a salty rock. Then we had to pick a toothbrush to clean it with. Next we cleaned it and we polished it, and the college students gave us a bag to put our salty rock in. Finally we got to take our salty rock home and it was so fun.
48
Geology-Rocks and Minerals When we got to polish our crystals we had to clean it with salt water and a weird looking brush that we cleaned it with. We used a salty chemical to clean it and we used plastic bags to put our crystal in. I had so much fun polishing my crystal.
50
Geology-Paleontologist First we were talking about fossils from a long time ago. Then we got to make our own fossils. Next we had to pick a shell and we got some dough that was shaped like a square. After that we pressed the shell into the dough and took it out. Finally, we got some glue and put it in the hole that we made and after it dried, it came out shaped like the kind of shell that we picked out.
54
Chemistry-Elephant’s Toothpaste First, there were three cylinders on a table. After that, Dr. Gould and the classmates were mixing some detergent in one cylinder, and nothing happened. Then,we put in some H2O2 and it started to foam because it made a chemical reaction and it foamed for a long time and it wouldn’t stop.
56
Chemistry-Elephant’s Toothpaste. After that, it foamed for a long time, that the first one came out slow and the second one came out fast and the third one came out fast but, it wouldn’t stop foaming for a long long time. It made a chemical reaction for a long time.
58
Chemistry-Elephant’s Toothpaste How it made the chemical reaction was they used three cylinders, h2o2, hydrogenperoxide, detergent, iodine, gas, liquid, and molecules and that made a chemical reaction and had bubbles in it. The cylinder was a cylindrical shape and they were measured by millimeters.
60
Chemistry-Elephant’s Toothpaste All the colors were, well the first one was a yellowish colo,r and the second one was a red color, and the third one was red and yellowish but, it really looked like it was a orange color. But, it was beautiful how all of them came out.
62
Chemistry-Genie in a Bottle First,we were talking about how it was going to come out. After, we were talking Dr.Gould asked a student to come up and take the lid off and a lot of steam came out and and a lot of kids thought that some thing was going to blow up, but it didn’t.
64
Chemistry-Genie in a Bottle When all the steam was coming out, the classroom was filled with smoke all over and Dr. Gould said that if you touch the bottle it is really hot and you could feel all the steaming inside. But, it cooled down for a little while. It had a lot of gas made of molecules that made a chemical reaction and the vapor was a change from before.
66
Research on Books
67
Geology First, there are three minerals in granite are quarts, pink feldspar, and black mica. The rocks sometimes do not show the mixture of the minerals. The sand can be with minerals or rocks because it’s made out of minerals. Source of Rock’s and Minerals by Alice Martin
69
Chemistry Chemicals are on the earth. There are a hundred chemical elements. They had to use symbols to stand for the elements to write them.
70
Geology-Salt First, we were predicting how big the salt was going to be when it was 10 times and how big it was going to be 75 times and after we were done predicting we looked inside of the microscope. Then we talked about what we saw and we drew it down on the paper to explain for what we saw.
