Model of Regional Development: Andalusia Brussels, October 15th 2008 Andalusia before the State of Autonomies (eighties) ECONOMY : 1.Production structure excessively dependant on primary sector (+ too low productivity) 2.Existing infrastructures struggle economic development 3.Lack of internationalisation 4.Low degree of entrepreneurship DEMOGRAPHY/SOCIAL: 1.High emigration / very low net increase of population 2.Poor presence of women in the labour market 3.Low qualification of work force

Industrial sector more oriented towards technology/ services sector 2.Internally and externally better interconnected 3.Process of internationalisation 4.Business sector more dynamic DEMOGRAPHY/SOCIAL: 1.Immigration / Significant growth of population 2.Intense incorporation of women into the labour market 3.Increase of qualified work force Brussels, October 15th 2008

Model of Regional Development: Andalusia Andalusia in the State of Autonomies/ the Accession to the EU ONE OF THE MOST DYNAMIC REGIONS IN EUROPE (2004-2007): Andalusia GDP has increased by 15.7% (Eurozone’s average, 9.3%) Andalusia average per capita GDP : 80% of the EU-27 Employment has increased by 22.5% (Eurozone, 6.2%) First region in terms of job creation (268 regions of the EU-27) More female jobs both in relative and absolute terms (Spain) BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISES: More than half a million registered companies 70 105 companies created in the last 4 years Exportations increased by 40.4% (rest of Spain, 23%) Current crisis situation: 2.6 % growth (2.2% in the Eurozone) Brussels, October 15th 2008

Model of Regional Development: Andalusia Brussels, October 15th 2008 Andalusia in the period 2007-2013 EU resources for Andalusia: 14.024 billion euros (+ 2 billion euros/previous period) About 1% of GDP (1.6%, previous period) Implementation: ERDF: 2/3 of the total amount (67.3%) 1/3 dedicated to R+D+I activities 77,95% of investments for competitiveness and employment (at least 60% required by Lisbon Strategy) Specific Actions: Andalusia Operational Programme ERDF (6.843 billion euros) Special R+D+I Operational Programme for Enterprises “Technological Fund” (Spain). 976.8 million euros for Andalusia Science-Technology-Enterprises System Creation of technological Centres
