18 Charley was still in shock, Father Bird dived down; to his son Followed by mother Flap your wings! They yelled, Charley froze in mid-air, without moving He kept falling, faster and faster down toward the cold hard ground Mother begged bird “Charley PLEASE, PLEASE! “, flap your wings. OR YOU’LL DIE!

Charley came, closer and closer to the cold hard, ground. He did what Mother bird and Father bird told him to do. When suddenly………. he stopped falling He felt a surge of happy, surprise flowing through him.

24 26) Then suddenly, a sharp gust caught Charley, and he flapped his wings, but he fell and hit the ground. But, he didn’t die; he sighed, started flapping his wings, and flew back up into the air.

28 30) The days passed and Charley had grown to the size of a full grown Eagle. With a white bald Head, and beautiful brown Feathers.

29 (Poem starts in Ballad Form) 1). Above the nest soars father bird Powerful wings spread out He’s a white and brown bald Eagle To chicks and wife he go’s 2). Mother bird fly's in to her nest Sitting in an elm tree Holding a fish by her Talons To baby chicks of three 3). She comes and they chirp wildly They hold up their small beaks Momma feeds the babies their fish But, one can't reach the meat. 4) A runty chick named Charley He’s small Tiny and short His Brother and Sister are big They're quick and he is slow 5) Sue and Lee give some to Charley,” Father bird instructs them Or he wont grow big enough to Fly A way from this elm 6) Mommy ''Charley's weak and Stupid His feathers very few He'll never fly, he'll fall and die Explained the mean two. 7) They discouraged mother bird their words made Charley sad because he was slow and tiny He felt shame full and bad 8). the days went by and the chicks grew Feathers turning a dark brown. Soon, they would need to start flying to move above the ground. 9)). Charley grew but he was still small He stared at the sky afraid because it was so big long wide very and high 10) Soon Mother bird and father bird taught the chicks how to fly “Mama”, Charley begged I don’t want to fall down and die 11) S ue and Lee jumped branch to branch they were mean to Charley you can’t fly you’re weak and stupid featherless and tiny 12) Father bird was very angry with brother and sister don’t say such mean words to Charley You should both know better 13) Father looked to his small son “Charley their words aren’t true” you’re small but I know you can fly my instincts tell me so 14) Mother bird said sweetheart it’s time I’m scared Charley Said Your ready, father counseled Usethe wind it will lead

30 15) Charley was to scared to move Father flew above him Mama hesitated. She said I love u my small son 16) Mother Bird and father bird exchanged glances. They both knew what had to be done Charley looked at his mothers face so serious, and he know by tone, something was about to happen. 17) Then she firmly pushed Charley Out of the large stick filled nest.
