JANUARY - FEBRUARY For the day /week of the first snow, quickly paint snow on blue or black paper. You can use any technique. White tempera painted on with q-tips or brushes. Scumbled on with cards or flat pieces of cardboard. Snow flakes printed on with cardboard edges. Then later you can have pre-cut hearts or have the students cut hearts on folded papers. Cut out middles and also glue them on.
3
MARCH - APRIL Draw the March wind. You can listen to music and then draw along with crayons. Get the students to move along how the wind might move. You could also use white crayons and then a watercolor wash over with blues and greys. April is kite flying. Have the students draw a diamond shape on construction paper. One way to teach this is to draw a letter V. Then make an upside down V on top of it. Cut out the kite. Students can decorate their kites with marker or crayons. Glue to the wind page page. Glue on a piece of yarn or string for the kite tail.

MAY - JUNE May is for Mothers and flowers also grow. We drew pictures of MOM. You can cut them out and glue on to the flowers page. You could also glue flowers on to the Mom page. We have colored flowers, painted flowers, used flower stickers. Your schedule can help to decide what techniques to use.

JULY - AUGUST July is going to the water – beach, lake, river or pool. Draw the water and the waves. You can use markers or crayons on blue paper. Crayon resist with blue paint on white paper. Marker on Blue paper. August is for the sail boat. We made the boat from pre-cut construction paper. On each end of the rectangle, cut off a triangle to make the pointed ends of the boat. Color and decorate the boat. The sails are a rectangle piece of white paper cut in half diagonally. Cut and glue the boat and sails to the water.

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER September and October is for Apples and Pumpkins. We use squares of red, yellow and green for apples and orange for the pumpkins. On each corner you cut off a little bit of the pointed end to begin to round off the square. Moving around continue to cut off the little points. This way the students don’t cut the square into a little tiny piece. Color the grass or ground with crayons and glue the apples and pumpkins to the background. Add stems and/or leaves with crayon. You can add little things on the ground like sticks, stones, bugs and worms.

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER November turkeys are drawn on construction paper and then cut out. Draw an oval for the body. Then add a bump for the head. Glue the body to the background. Draw the details on the turkey such as the eye and wing. Then add beak, legs and the feathers. Color with marker or crayon. December is a pine tree. This could be a Christmas tree or just an outdoor tree. On green paper, draw a large triangle. Cut out the tree and glue to the background. Add details with crayon, marker, stickers or even glitter glue. You could paint snow on the branches and add a bird such as a cardinal.

ASSEMBLY You will need to find a calendar template to print out two months on one sheet In landscape mode. Then on 12x18 construction paper attach with glue or staples the picture with the calendar page below. (see examples) You may need a heavy duty stapler to staple the six pages together. You could create a statement for the back or for a cover from the student with the date and students’ name. Send home as a nice gift for parents.
