How To Get Wealthy

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor put their hope in wealth…” (1 Timothy 6:17)

“…Not many among you were wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many well-born” (1 Corinthians 1:26)

The early church also included people of wealth. Phoebe, a woman of high standing, (Romans 16:1-2) Lydia a merchant of purple cloth, (Acts 16:14) Erastus, the city treasurer of Corinth. (Romans 16:23)

They “put their hope in God” (1 Timothy 6:17) becoming benefactors of God’s movement, sharing God’s wealth – “The riches of God’s glory found in Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 4:19)

Learn The True Source of Satisfaction and Contentment

For only “…Godliness with contentment is great gain. People who want to get rich fall into a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction” (I Timothy 6:6; 9)

“I wander through the bazaars and markets because my heart rejoices at the sight of all the things I do not need!”

Too many of us “…have nibbled so long at the table of the world that our soul is stuffed with small things and there is no room for the great.” John Piper

Be Rich in Good Deeds, Because of the Greatest Deed: The Generosity of Jesus

“Do good to be rich in good deeds… Generous and willing to share” (1 Timothy 6:18)

“The grace of our Lord Jesus, who though he was rich, yet for our sakes became poor, so that through his poverty we might become rich, excelling in the grace of giving…” (2 Corinthians 8:9)

“Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume, and poured it on Jesus’ feet, wiping his feet with her hair. The whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume” (John 12:3 )

For as Matthew 25:45 reminds us, when we pour out our best on the ‘feet’ around us: the least, lost, and lonely, we emulate Mary, pouring out our lives to Jesus. For when we serve the least, lost and lonely, Jesus clarifies in Matthew 25:45, “You did it for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

Generosity Does Have A Huge Fragrance and Impact, Not Just For Today, But For Eternity.

For as we do good, becoming rich in good deeds, sharing generously, we lay up treasure for ourselves and those we serve; not just for today but also as “A firm foundation for the coming age, so that indeed, all may take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:19)

“Our quest for wealth, our security, should be invested in the things of God, ultimately expressed in the life to come, so that you may be sure of holding a share in the life which is permanent” (1 Timothy 6:19)

All that pleases is but for a moment.

All that troubles is but for a moment.

Nothing is important, save that which is eternal.

Seek the wealth of God, investing in “the riches of God’s glory found in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19)
