Density Lesson Goal: Students will be able to calculate the density of regular shaped objects.
2
Ignitor (Warm Up) Definition of Density: Example of Density: How do I calculate Density?:
3
Density Definition Density is a measure of how much mass is contained in a given unit volume (density = mass/volume)How much mass is in (1g/cm3) of any object. Kid Friendly: how tightly packed or loosely packed an object is See Picture: The hard boiled egg is tightly packed with no liquid inside it so it is more dense than the egg that is not hard boiled because it is loosely packed and has some liquid so it is not as dense. Hard boiled Regular Egg-not hard boiled

Examples of Density Density is how much mass is in one small part of an object. (how much stuff is inside an object) Even thought the balls are the SAME SIZE-they have Different Densities!! Ball A: Size: 5422 cm3 Ball A: Mass: (16 pounds)7295 grams Ball A: Density 1.34 g/cm3 Ball B: Size: 5422 cm3 Ball B Mass: (12 pounds) 5300 grams Ball B Density:.98 g/cm3 Ball A Size: 5422 cm3 but the density is 1.34 g/cm3 Ball B Size 5422 Cm3 but the density Is.98 g/cm3
5
Calculate Density Density Calculation: To find the density of an object you divide the mass of the object (m) by its volume (v).

Exit Card (closing the lesson) Definition of Density: Example of Density: How do I calculate Density?:
