 There are seven players on each team (six court players and one goalie )  The Playing Court: The court measures 20 meters (65' 7") by 40 meters (131' 3"). The court is larger than a basketball court, but the length may be shortened when space is limited. The goal area line, or 6-meter line (19' 8"), is the most important line. No one except the goalie is allowed to stand in the goal area. The goal opening is 2 meters by 3 meters. Players may jump into the area if the ball is released before landing in the area.  the game consists of 2, 30-minute halves with 10-minute half-time.

 Handball Attacking  There are a number of different types of attack which are commonly used in a handball game.  Fast breaks are common in Handball, and they occur when an attacking team have committed too many players forward, lost the ball, and have a huge space behind them to be exploited.  The defending team can quickly turn defence into attack, by a shooting player running quickly forward into the space, and a passing player throwing the ball long over the top of the defending team.  It is really common in any attack for a winger to receive the ball in space, and to get a short- range shot in at goal.

 Pass In Handball  Passing is a key component in any handball match, and is as important as good shooting if you want to win a match  The first pass is the hip pass, in which you throw the ball sideways across your body to your team-mate.  The overhead pass is similar to the hip pass, but instead of throwing the ball across your body, you are throwing the ball over the top of your head.  In the bounce pass you throw the ball into the ground, roughly halfway between you and your team- mate, allowing the ball to bounce into their hands.  The jump pass is similar to the overhead pass, but you throw the ball whilst you are in the air. This is great pass for moving the ball when being tightly marked.

 Handball Drills  To do a fast break drill: start with the shooter sprinting straight up the pitch; the passer then throws a long ball, and the shooter has to catch the ball and shoot.  To do a dive shot drill: build up some momentum by taking your defender in one direction, before moving the other way and diving in that direction; whilst diving, get your shot in on goal!  To do a jump shot drill: build up enough momentum to enable you to spring up above the defender and their outstretched arms, and get a clear shot at goal whilst in the air.

 How To Score A 7 Metre Throw  A 7-meter throw is a penalty situation in Handball.  There are a number of situations in which a 7 metre throw is awarded including: a foul, a goalie carrying the ball back to their area, a pass back to the goalie in the area, and a defensive player entering their own goal area to defend.  All players must be outside the free-throw line when the throw is taken.  The player taking the throw has 3 seconds to shoot after the referee’s whistle, and must take the throw from the line indicating 7 metres from the goal.  There are several approaches the taking a 7 metre throw; the most common way is to watch the goalkeeper and try and guess which way they are going, then shooting the other way.

 Jump Shot In Handball  A jump shot is one of the main types of shot in handball. It allows you to jump above a defender to get a clear shot at goal, and also a possible height advantage over the goal-keeper. This step by step guide talks you through how to practice a jump shot.  Start off without a defender infront of you. Run slowly towards the goal and quickly jump and shoot whilst in mid-air. Continue to do this until you are confident in your timing, and accuracy of your shooting.  Try practicing with a defender infront of you. You will not have space for a run up now, so try and jump up above them and get your shot away whilst in mid-air.   Try and shoot fast. You need to beat the goalkeeper, so try and give them as little time as possible to react.
