Naviance : Create list and make sure all information is correct Verify necessary application information Take or Retake any tests Prepare and Submit Your Applications Test scores, essays, recommendations, etc. Check each school for materials needed Check your email weekly verify that your applications were received and are complete Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships Decide on a school and accept Keep checking emails! Maintain your GPA. Overview of Process

Where Are We Now? College Readiness Course 95% of the seniors have drafts of their college lists and essays, understand process and expectations for college deadlines and completed community service. Weekly Milestones Calendar of weekly assignments for college process College Office Hours During IL Students can come see me for help or questions and are pulled if they are not meeting deadlines. Connections Lessons Weekly lessons focused on college work time and mentor check-ins Weekly Senior Mentor Meetings Meet with senior mentors to train and discuss student needs PLPs College List is signed off by parents, student and mentor (safety schools) Financial aid overview Testing Plan (if necessary)

Where are we now? Part II College Visits The vast majority of the schools students listed on Naviance are coming to Summit. They are posted on the bulletin board, electronic bulletin board, Naviance and the Summit Web site. 90% of the time, the rep that comes to Summit reads Summit applications Test Sign-ups All students have taken the SATs at least once All students have a “testing plan” including SAT Subject Tests (if necessary) Naviance Students well-versed with this on-line college management system Letters of Recommendation Students assigned 2 teacher recommenders last summer. Recommenders given “brag sheets” last summer Students should follow the process!

The current political and economic climate “impacted” majors at CSUs and UCs Budget woes: Enrollment decreases Fee increases Classes or sections cut UC’s: ~5 years to graduate CSU’s: ~5 to 6 years Community Colleges: ~3-4 years to do GE classes in order to transfer to UC/CSU

Financial Aid Financial Aid Night October 18 th Extensive list of scholarships on Naviance Identifying students Have a financial safety UCs/CSUs not necessarily cheapest in the long run Fill out the FAFSA even if you *might* need money or you think you may not qualify Its free! Many schools use it to determine scholarships CalGrants given this way You may qualify for some loans You might need it later…
