Game Up Mr. Staten is a huge video game player Yes, I do have Origin and Steam Some of my favorite games are Mass Effect (don’t talk to me about the ending of the third one), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
3
Rise of an Empire Drawing influences from the board game Monopoly, Mass Effect, and Civilization V, this year, American Civics is turning itself into a video game Just like a role-playing game (RPG), you will have the opportunity to assume the role of a character and play the class and its lessons to victory
4
Money, Money, Money, Money…Monaaaaay You will have the opportunity to earn a salary (income) through classroom jobs, completing homework, and bonuses Money is spent in four ways: 1. Monthly rent 2. Purchasing level power-ups 3. Buying prizes 4. Paying fines
5
Income and Salaries Salaries are earned by performing your classroom job and completing homework regularly Bonuses are also paid (at will) for exceptional service Each student will have an online checking account to store their funds and money Mr. Staten maintains the central bank for paying salaries and bonuses
6
Paying Rent Every desk has the name of a city we will be studying over the course of the year That seat is yours and you will be given the lease to the city and you will pay a monthly rent Rent is due on the first Friday of the month Failure to pay rent could mean a loss of privileges, power-ups, or ranking!
7
The Corporation If you choose to, you can purchase the title to your desk and own it…and no longer have to pay rent to the bank! You can even purchase the title to other desks and have rent paid to you to increase your income!
8
Prizes and Rewards Students who pay their rent on time will also be able to spend money on prizes… At monthly auctions Or save your money for the big prizes at the end of the year!
9
Levels and Power-ups You can also purchase ranks along the various assignment tracks Assignments will sometimes have a focus where you can become an expert on a particular historical subject that may interest you: Military, Political, Scientific, Diplomatic, and Economic tracks
10
Fines Fines involve a loss of money from your salary or account for violations of class rules. Sample Fines: Dishonesty - $1000.00 per count Rudeness/incivility - $500 Unprofessionalism/messy area - $500 Tardiness (without pass) - $350
