Catalyst #2 October 24, 2014 Motivation and Goal Setting Journals and reflection sheets due today! 1.In the equation V x E = M, what does each letter stand for? 2.What is a SMART goal? (Review your handout.) Now, turn to p. 86 in your OnCourse text. 1.What is one of your roles in life? What is your long-term goal in this role? 2.What is your long-term goal in your role as a student? 3.How do these goals connect to one another? 4.To achieve your long-term goals, you have to start with what is in front of you. Let’s set your first SMART goal for the new quarter. Everyone MUST set a goal of at least 15 activities per week, which includes 2 mastery quizzes. (This means at least 3 activities per day.) Everyone MUST set a goal of at least earning a 60% on all activities, and an 80% on mastery quizzes. Take a look back at your reflection sheets to see if you can set your goal higher than this. Sample SMART Goal: I will complete 12 activities and 1 mastery quiz over the next 4 school days, completing them by Friday, October 31st. I will have scores of at least 60% on activities and at least 80% on mastery quizzes. Completing these activities and mastery quizzes will prepare me to re-take the Accuplacer and bring up my scores, saving me time and money in college.

Catalyst #3 October 29, 2014 College Application/Research Day New seats today! 1. Write down which of the following you will work on during the first part of class today: A- College Research B- Applying to a college OR C- Making progress in my online MFL classes 2. On the new weekly reflection sheet, fill out the information in the first box to set your goal for the week. Remember, for THIS week: Everyone must set a goal of completing at least 12 activities this “week” (which includes last Friday and today through this Friday), and everyone must set a goal of completing 1 mastery quiz. Everyone must also set minimum goals of achieving 60% on activities and 80% on quizzes. 3. Let’s practice the new type of information you will record on your reflection sheet. Let’s say that last Friday you completed 2 activities, and today you completed 3 activities. A. How many total activities have you completed? ____ B. Catalyst #5 October 31, 2014 College Freshmen Friday: Self-Management 1. We’ve talked about setting goals and staying motivated, now let’s look at a system for ensuring your actions reflect your goals and motivations. Let’s read about the four quadrants theory on p. 132. As we read, write down what type of actions each quadrant represents. 2. Complete the activity on the handout provided. Reflection: 3. Look back at the chart you created: on what type of activities are you spending most of your time? 4. What are the most common things that keep you from being productive? 5. What have you realized about your time management? Will your current time management allow you to meet your goals? Why or why not? (Remember that your goal should be to mostly spend time in Quadrants 1 and especially 2).
