Building Muscle Must break down 1 st Rebuild

Break Down-Recover-Rebuild It is ok to STRUGGLE and Break Down. Don’t Quit. KEEP GOING !(ENDURE). Start STRONG...RECOVER Finish STRONG !

Flexibility I can define flexibility and identify activities that improve area flexibility

Flex Do Muscles Flex?

Joints flex.

Joints need fluid Like a bicycle chain needs oil, JOINTS need fluid to stay healthy and provide the most movement.

Arthritis

F-L-E-X-ibility What is flexibility? How is the term flexibility used in the movement/exercise world? Are there any other uses for the term flexibility besides people’s muscles? Give examples

1 st -5 All of our movements show flexibility. It is important to stretch but every movement lengthens and shortens muscles. Yoga (slow) gets the joints “oiled” and ready for the activities.

Most of us know Flexibility is the distance or range of motion from a joint, which may be increased by stretching.

Range of Motion Another way to say range of motion is to see how far or how short (distance) our joints can flex (short) and/or extend (long).

Range of motion Why is range of motion important to our muscles? Muscles contract (shorten) and get strong. Muscles extend (lengthen) and relax through movement.

Activity 2 Today you will perform the activity stations. Were there any stations where you had difficulty going through the full range? Evaluate yourself…

Flexibility Rubric After performing these exercises, evaluate (rate or grade ) yourself using the following scale. 1. stiff as a board (difficulty bending, extending, holding, and completing) 2. Stretch Armstrong- flexible, (extend and contract as well as hold…wide range of motion and completed)
