2. A rtistic S tatement Foods are photogenic. Honest and artistic. Cups of tea listen to my worries; pieces of cake tell me their dreams. Tea Party is the embodiment of their thoughts. I look for their hidden preciousness. I believe there’s something in them that makes us what we are… something that allows us to talk, think, and remember. Foods are expressive. The reliable tie that holds us together. Realizing their appearance in many different ceremonial occasions, realizing that they posses even greater purpose than to provide us with energy. Ever since the day I found myself captivated by their existence, they became something more meaningful and beautiful than an object to consume.

11. B iography I was born in Japan and later moved to California, not knowing even the simplest English like alphabets. I was subconsciously seeking something that could reflect upon my feelings and thoughts without the use of any words; that something was art. Art had always been one of the things that I was interested in since I was very little. From my earliest recollections, I was fascinated by many different forms of art: I started out with stylized-type drawing, shifted to realistic drawing, then to abstract drawing. Photography was something that I had always been doing without even realizing how important it was for me. I never thought about going any farther with it until I started to look at it from an artistic aspect. Soon after that, photography became “the art” for me. Photography, in one way, is categorized as realistic art for it frames objects or scenes that actually exist right in front of your eyes. Yet what I found the most delight in was creating images that are abstract or sometimes surreal using my camera; and it fascinated me more than any other ways of interpreting art. I put more of my effort into aesthetics than accuracy in documenting. Feeling, essence, mood, and atmosphere are the fundamentals to the majority of my works.
