Definitions Purpose –Is a result, end, mean, aim, or goal of an action intentionally undertaken –A fundamental human need for guiding ideals that give meaning to our actions –Central to a good human life, the pursuit of happiness –Pursuing a career, raising a family, improving the world

Definitions Passion – Term applied to a very strong feeling about a person or thing –Lively or eager interest in or admiration for a proposal, cause, or activity or love to a feeling of unusual excitement, enthusiasm or compelling emotion, a positive affinity or love, towards a subject, idea, person, or object.

Purpose/Passion What Words Come to Mind –Motivation –Drive –Success –Family/Career/Profession –Make A Difference

Literature Describe a time it was great to come to work! –Sense of community –Productive, interesting & meaningful work –Clear, reasonable expectations –Consistent, fair –Maximum control possible over work life

Drive What Motivates Us??? Individual supervisor –Biggest effect on daily working environment –Horrid Company – Pocket of Excellence Three Elements of Behavior –Autonomy – have control of life & destiny –Mastery – master tasks we are undertaking –Purpose – “buy in” to why we are doing things
