2 Case Study: Cokeville Hostage Situation (Actual Case Exemplar) On May 16, 1986 a couple took 150 hostages (mostly children) at a Cokeville, WY school. Children were forced to surround a homemade bomb while the couple demanded a ransom. –What behavioral health efforts need to be undertaken now for parents and family members of the hostages?

3 Case Study: Cokeville Hostage Situation The bomb accidentally explodes, killing one terrorist and injuring 70+ children. What are the behavioral health considerations for: – EMS at the incident scene? – Hospital receivers? – Family members with injured children?

4 Case Study: Cokeville Hostage Situation –What are the behavioral health considerations for the children (both injured victims, “hostages” and their school mates) returning to school after this incident? –What are the long-term behavioral health considerations for the children and their families?
