Plot: The structure of a story, or the sequence in which the author arranges events in a story. A typical story structure usually contains a conflict, the rising action, the climax, and the resolution. The plot may have a protagonist, or central character who is considered the “good guy”. This character is often opposed by the antagonist, or “bad guy”. The tension between these two characters is often the source of conflict.

Conflict A struggle between two or more characters, around which the tension of the story centers, or a problem to be resolved in the story.
4
Rising Action The bulk of the story that begins after the author reveals the conflict and that continues on to the climax.
