3 Donations by friends, relatives, Matching grants Corporate donations How are funds usually raised

4 Target amount for each runner is Rs.500/km Half-marathon = Rs.10,500 Full-marathon = Rs.21,000 What is my commitment to raise funds?

5 Marathon Fundraising Fundamentals Mimics the marathon training itself. (May appear even more difficult in the beginning.) Commitment Organized effort Persistence and tracking

6 1) Commitment Either you do it or you don’t, there is no try. - Yoda As we make commitment for running we make a commitment to raising funds for the underprivileged. Most of our friends need an opportunity to contribute towards a good and reliable cause. You need to be convinced of the cause and remember that you are providing an occasion.

7 2) Organized effort The marathon training program lasts over 5 month over which you can fundraise. (You also have an additional month after that.) Make a list of all your friends (acquaintances) who may be interested in knowing about your program. The majority of the fundraising is emailing and calling friends.

8 3) Persistence and tracking Most of our friends procrastinate, receiving a donation on the first contact is very rare. Reminders to your friends at milestones, e.g. half-way point. Send out pictures of your races. Follow up with company matching with friends with the help of administrators of the program.

9 How many donors would I need to contact to reach my fundraising goal? Half-marathon 10-15 donors will be required to reach your target. Full-marathon 20-25 donors needed to reach your target.

10 More tips on fundraising? Take help from your fundraising mentor Learn about one asha project.
