1 FENCING 101 Seminar for WMMHS Fencing Parents Monday, October 16, 2011

2  Varsity High School Sport  2011 Season – our 8 th Season  Initially a Fencing Club  Started by PJ Verona and Jillian Mahen  NJ has the highest number of high school fencing programs in the country –  49 boys’ teams and 49 girls’ teams  Self-Funded for 8 Years  Board supported  Not all expenses are covered  Fundraising efforts are essential!  Team Captains: Girls: Capt. 4 W hy Fencing?  Fencing is a sport of etiquette and tradition. It builds Character, Resourcefulness, Patience and Intuition  Fencing demands considerable physical conditioning placing simultaneous demands on anaerobic strength and aerobic endurance  Fencing is a lifelong sport  For the accomplished fencer, scholarships are available for elite fencers.

7  You do need to buy your own uniform, glove and mask, which costs about $200.
