2 Remaining Vocabulary  Non-verbal Skills – the way you communicate without speaking  Body Language – expressing how you feel without saying anything (slouching, frowning, looking down etc)  Ethically – doing the right thing, honesty  Cooperation – playing along, working together  Initiative – doing something without being told, getting ahead

3 Diversity  Generally diversity relates to the factors that make people different. Diversity involves respecting other people and recognizing that they are individuals.  5 main groups in the USA for cultural heritage:  Native Americans  European Americans  Asian Americans  African Americans  Hispanic Americans

4 Areas of Diversity Concern  What issues can arise if you aren’t aware of employees ____________?  Language  Religion  Gender (55%)  Age (60+)  Disability (8%)

5 Laws involving Discrimination  Discrimination - making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs  Fair Labor Standards Act  Equal Pay Act of 1963  Civil Rights Act  Age Discrimination in Employment Act  Immigration and Reform Act  Americans with Disabilities Act
