and Use a range of connectives in writing. but because if so when I am excited because we are going on a trip to Lincoln soon! I love going to the seaside but not when it’s raining. Use speech within a story, including speech punctuation. ? !, “ ” “I don’t want to get out of bed!” moaned Mrs Towers miserably. “Why can’t we have a three day weekend?” questioned Mrs Baxter cheekily. “Let’s work really hard this morning and see if we can have some extra playtime later,” announced Mrs Towers cheerily. All punctuation goes inside the speech marks. Spoken words go inside the speech marks.

Adjectives – describes the noun. Adverbs – describes how the verb is done – often ends in –ly. Similes – compares one thing to another using ‘as’ or ‘like’. Metaphors – tells you that one thing ‘is’ something else, creating a vivid image.

5 Describing the thoughts and feelings of a character in a story. We are not allowed to say – he was angry… Mrs Towers gently closed the door behind her and skipped all the way to school, singing a jolly tune. CRASH! The kitchen cupboard slammed shut and Jack glared at Lewis, with his fists clenched tightly. With her head in her hands, Mrs Baxter watched the tears drop, one by one, to the floor below.
