THE ESSENTIAL QUALITIES OF A U-HIGH GRADUATE We at University High School strive to develop educated leaders who are prepared to respectfully engage in a diverse and interdependent society. To prepare them for this journey, a University High School graduate should: Demonstrate universal ethical principles such as fairness, honesty, integrity, and respect for all people. All Departments Possess the collaborative and interpersonal skills needed to be a productive team member. Fine Arts, Math, Wellness Communicate effectively and creatively using varied modes of expression English, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Social Science Recognize and exhibit personal responsibility for learning. Business, Engineering/Tech, Foreign Language, Math Use resources (including technology) to locate, evaluate, and apply information. English, Science, Social Science Think critically and flexibly to solve problems. Business, Engineering/Technology, Science Make choices that lead to mental and physical health. Counseling, Wellness

HOW TEACHERS REPORT OUT Scale 3 = Exceeds Expectations 2 = Meets Expectations 1 = Needs Improvement All students start on 2 by default If faculty member sees evidence to the contrary s/he will report that information each quarter If student needs improvement an explanation is required If student exceeds expectations an explanation is strongly encouraged in order to give specific feedback

STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM If a student needs improvement in one or more of the Essential Qualities s/he will be referred to the Student Assistance Program

WHY DID UHIGH MAKE THIS CHANGE? Students can reflect and grow both academically and behaviorally Provides student and parents/guardians quarterly feedback Can be used when writing recommendations, applying for college, scholarships, and internships
