Vocational/Trade Schools 6weeks to 2 years Certificate/ License Open Enrollment Focus on one type of skill/profession Non-Transferable Difference between Public and Private ITT, Westwood College, UTI LA Trade Tech, Pacoima Skills Center, North Valley Occupational Center

Community College 2 years Degree: Associative of Arts Open Enrollment General Education Transferable Inexpensive: $46 a unit (46x15=$690) LA Mission College, LA Pierce College, LA Valley College, Moorpark College, Glendale College, College of the Canyons,…

Universities 4 years Bachelors Degree Eligible students v. Competitive students Application deadlines and requirements Eligible v. Competitive Universities

Public California Universities California State U. (CSUN, CSULA,…) 23 campuses Minimum 2.00 GPA Accept top 1/3 of graduating class Require Application: Due 11/30 Medium- Extra Large SAT or ACT required University of Calif. Private/Independent Universities USC, Stanford, Mt. St. Mary’s,… 100 universities in California GPA and requirements vary Application Deadlines vary, usually 12/1 to 2/15 Some are religiously affiliated More expensive: more financial aid Generally, smaller class sizes

Out of State Universities There are both PUBLIC and PRIVATE out of state technical schools, community colleges, colleges and universities Private Programs are the same cost for students who come from outside the state Public Programs charge additional monies to students who come from other states They each have different requirements, costs, deadlines and eligibility: Research these things carefully

Choosing a College or University: Define what you are looking for in a college or university: -location-major -size-population -activities-athletics -competitiveness-class size -special programs-other?
