Where did the investments go to?

Activities financed by ERDF Significant breakthrough in terms of cooperation: Beyond exchanges of experience… real transfers of know-how Tackling of transnational issues through resource pooling

Projects’ achievements 700 partners, 86 projects, tangible results on the ground and a fruitful cooperation across borders on territorial development issues: … and this is only the beginning!

NWE territorial co-operation: what next?

 A modest tentative outline of a joint transnational territorial strategy  An interface between co- operation and the ESDP  Strong emphasis on transnational issues  A major inspiration for the drafting of the NWE Community Initiative Programme The NWE Spatial Vision 1998-2001

The NWE proactive approach  To generate projects on transnational issues, the involvement of key players is needed  Some of them have hardly or never heard of INTERREG!  NWE thematic seminars were of great help, but much remains to be done

«Spatial Vision +»: towards a strategic operational framework  A framework to guide strategic territorial development policy across NWE  A tool to raise awareness among the wide public and build support among politicians  A pragmatic and focused co-operation catalyst: identification of key players to tackle specific transnational issues through key co-operation projects  Three study contracts: final reports expected by May 2005  Lisbon-Gothenburg agenda and impact of the EU enlargement on the NWE territory taken on board

2005-2006: pave the way for territorial co-operation post-2007  Important decisions remain to be taken by the Member States and the European Commission: EU regulations, budgetary means, co-operation areas, operational programmes, etc.  Meanwhile, nothing prevents us from exchanging views about the possible content of future co-operation projects. Some projects should be approved and get started in 2007.  Good implementation of approved projects is no less important; to be harnessed as valuable experience for the future. Scope for some more NWE projects approval.
