2 Objective: At the completion of this lesson you will be able to interpret symbolism and explain their importance Materials needed:  Paper  Pen (Black or Blue)  Your undivided attention

3  Champ s  Conversation level: 2  Help: Raise your hand (not your voice)  Activity: Quietly answering on own paper without shouting out answers  Movement: None  stay in your seat until dismissal bell  do not turn around to converse with neighbor  do not put head on desk  Participation: Stay on task and be prepared to share out.

4 In America birth on American soil allows for citizenship, however is that all it is to be an American? Bell Ringer Bell Ringer: Reflect and answer the above question and write your opinion. Be prepared to briefly defend it. Leave your bell ringer out as you will need it for the activity later will need it for the activity later

5 As you travel aboard or meet international people the images or symbols of America travel with you. Some of these images have become stereotypes of what is America and American culture.

6 Activity: Let’s view a few and see if you can identify the symbol, place where symbol exist (just in case someone wants to visit it later) and what it stands for in American culture. Directions: On the same sheet as your bell ringer, number your paper 1-10 Identify the image and what this symbol stands for in American culture
