Introduction Violence prevention is necessary in order to keep schools safe Through collaboration violent situations can be avoided Many Professional, Commercial, and Government websites were evaluated This presentation will focus on five particular websites that address: –Early warning signs of behaviors that may result in violence –Preventative measures for parents and schools –Successful interventions and programs for the entire educational system

Roanoke City Public Schools: School Guidance and Counseling Suggestions for Parents…..Preventing your child from becoming a bully: –Teach your child to respect themselves and others. –Clearly state that violence is not acceptable. –Assist your child in finding non-violent strategies for anger management and conflict resolution. –Present yourself as a model of nonviolent behavior. –Seek help from school counselors for bullying and aggressive behavior.

Roanoke City Public Schools: School Guidance and Counseling Preventing your child from becoming a victim of bullying: –Instill self-confidence in your child. –Assist him or her in establishing good friendship and other social skills. –Teach him or her to seek help from you or another trusted adult if she or he is harassed. –Try to meet with a bully to work things out; if the problem continues, call or meet with the parent of the bully.

Conclusion Five valuable sites were evaluated for current research on Violence Prevention. They provided resourceful information regarding, early warning signs of violent behavior, crisis planning, violence prevention programs, and the importance of collaboration. On the commercial websites, such as Lorrie’s Links and School Counselor resources products such as books on bullying and violence prevention were available for purchase. These five sites also offered free resources available for the public to review.
