A technology that will support future generations of Postal products, services, and associated features. Why use Intelligent Mail? It provides end-to-end visibility into the mail stream, enables Service Performance Measurement, and information to improve the value of mail.

10 Today The Intelligent Mail barcode May 2009 Basic Option Full-Service Option The PLANET Code and the POSTNET barcode will be allowed on letters and flats until May 2011 Intelligent Mail Implementation

11 Intelligent Mail Implementation Additional Requirements Effective May 2009, Automation flats will be required to bear barcodes that include delivery point routing codes, as currently required for automation letters. Qualified Business Reply Mail (QBRM) and Permit Reply Mail (PRM) pieces will be required to use Intelligent Mail barcodes, including Mailer IDs, as of May 2010. Business Reply Mail (BRM) and Courtesy Reply Mail (CRM) pieces will be required to have Intelligent Mail barcodes in May 2011.

12 Intelligent Mail Implementation Pricing structure for mailpieces with Intelligent Mail barcodes eligible for Basic and Full-Service Options In May 2009 the prices for Basic, Full-Service and POSTNET will be the same In the Fall of 2009 the price for the Full-Service Option will be lower than Basic (Basic will include the IM barcode)
