DROUGHT YEAR 4 John Harrington, ACOG OCT 2013
2
Summary so Far Drought started in Water Year 2010-11 (Oct 2010) Worst year (so far) was Water Year 2011-12 Summer 2013 was very wet

Streamflow is decreasing…..

10
Points to Ponder Most droughts are five to eight years in length. A lot of drought cycles will have a wet year. Western Oklahoma is still in severe drought; it would not take much to move the line eastward. Lower stream flow. Lower groundwater levels. Canton Lake at 22% capacity.

GROUNDWATER MODELING AND THE GARBER WELLINGTON
14
Much of this decision was based on groundwater modeling, which restricts users to.2 acre-ft per year (2.4 inches/per year).
15
A groundwater model may look complicated, but it really is basically
16
An accounting system or a checkbook. RAIN RIVERS PUMPING
17
THE USGS WILL FINISH UP THE CENTRAL OKLAHOMA MODEL LATE THIS YEAR. THIS WILL LEAD TO STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS IN 2014 AND REVISED PERMITS.
18
WHAT ELSE CAN THIS MODEL DO?
20
WHAT ELSE CAN GROUNDWATER MODELS DO? AQUIFER MANAGEMENT! Estimate how much water is in the bathtub available for use. Estimate static water levels in wells. Estimate water quality over time.
21
Make smaller models concentrated over well fields to help manage the aquifer.
