This research has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement No. 211392 LiveDiverse WP5 – Vietnam Ba Be – Na Hang Complex Sustainable Livelihoods and Biodiversity in Developing Countries WP-5. Construction, management andn facilitation of the GIS database

Ba Be (Bac Kan) – Na Hang (Tuyen Quang) Complex, Vietnam. WP5 is implemented by National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP). – Dr. Nguyen Van Toan, NIAPP’s vice director (leader) – Mr. Vu Cong Lan (coordinator) – Dr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan (GIS Expert) – Mr. Do Minh Phuong (GIS, Communication Expert) – Dr. Hoang Xuan Phuong (Agro-economist) – Ms. Hoang Bao Cham (Environmentalist) – Mrs. Vuong Thuc Tran (Secretary) – Ms. Nguyen Hong Anh Introduction (1 of 2)

Introduction (2 of 2) Ba Be National Park ( 22°21' – 22°29'N, 105°34' – 105°42'E ) Na Hang Nature Reserve ( 22°16’-22°31’N, 105°22’-105°29’E )

Objectives EVIs characterization and analysis. Analysis of the key factors to ecological vulnerability at various levels. Analysis of the relative importance of the determinants at various levels. Analysis of possible strategies to reduce ecological vulnerability. Construction, management and facilitation of the GIS Database.

Vulnerability Characteristics of a country Forces of Nature Human use Climate change

Vulnerability Mapping The EVI scale is a relative scale of vulnerability ranging from 1 – least vulnerable (most resilient) to 7 – most vulnerable (least resilient).

Data requirement The EVI by its very essence attempts to summarise a wide variety of environmental vulnerability data for a country. The data needed encompasses a range of environmental factors from: meteorological data, sea surface temperature, geological and geographical information, biological species and habitat data, reserves, human activities such as fishing, mining, pollution, population, legislation etc. The diverse and wide-ranging nature of these data means that sources are widely dispersed and often require some effort to identify, collect and compile information.
