2 WHAT IS RSS? In Simple Terms: RSS RSS is a simple yet effective way of keeping up-to-date when new information is added to a website, without visiting the website to check for updates. Why Use RSS: RSS RSS solves a problem that exist for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to stay informed by retrieving the lasted information from the sites you’re interested in.

3 HISTORY OF RSS 1997 – Dave “Winer develops scriptingNews. RSS was born. 1999 – Netscape develops RSS 0.9o (which supported scriptingNews). This was simply XML with an RDF Header. 1999 – Dave Winer at userLand develops scripting 2.0b1 (this included Netscape’s RSS 0.90 features)… 2000 – Dave Winer at UserLand develops RSS 0.92 2002 – Dave Winer develops RSS 0.92 2003 – The official RSS 2.0 specification is released
