2 GOALS OF THE REPORT Share updated information Review preliminary dialogue with the Lodi Education Association Review additional input from second community forums Additional public input Board discussion and decision

3 UPDATED INFORMATION Changing student/teacher ratios will be accomplished through additional staff rather than through class size reduction. Sustainability of the reforms after the grant period ends is a challenging component. Most elements of the grant proposal will not be put into place until the grant is awarded to the school. Grants will be approved or denied at the State Board of Education Meeting on July 14 and 15, 2010.

4 UPDATED INFORMATION (Cont.) The staff selection process must be agreed upon in early May prior to the “transfer” process. Extension of the learning time and compensation must be agreed upon prior June 1, 2010. The school principals will be selected from within the district as soon as possible.

5 COLLABORATION WITH LODI EDUCATION ASSOCIATION Preliminary Meeting: April 26, 2010 Discussed “Must Do’s” regarding agreements that must be crafted to include in the grant application.

7 RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the district pursue the School Improvement Grant Turnaround Model for Lawrence and Sutherland Schools. A decision is critical at this time to allow staff time to develop and write the grant to submit on June 1, 2010.
