Advanced Learning Programs2 The Gifted Endorsement An in-field endorsement to the current clear renewable teaching certificate (Note: Must be Clear Renewable) Applies only to the certification field (e.g., a teacher with a special education certificate and no other certification would be certified to teach special education/gifted students, but not all gifted students) Offered in 3 Modules (1 and 3 during Summer months; 2 during school year)

Advanced Learning Programs8 Schedule for School Year Module 2: 70 hours Meet Thursdays: 9/2, 9/16, 9/30, 10/14, 10/28, 11/11, 12/2, 1/13, 2/3, 2/17, 3/3, 3/17, 3/31 3 hours per evening. Additional 31 hours online required.

Advanced Learning Programs9 Field Experience Requirement 30 additional hours in Module 2 Includes 15 hours spent developing and implementing differentiated lesson plans for gifted students in your classroom Must include visits to gifted classrooms Also recommended, intern hours spent with Gifted Lead at your school

Advanced Learning Programs10 Proposed Schedule for Summer 2009 Module 3: 50 Hours June 6-16, 2010 8:30 – 1:30 Participants will focus on standards of assessment, collaboration, and professional and ethical practices. Please check syllabus to note standards and assignments for all three modules.

Advanced Learning Programs13 Attendance Expectations Prompt attendance to all sessions is expected Presence alone does not guarantee credit, certification, or placement Must make up work missed (limited opportunity – emergency only) No make up sessions

Advanced Learning Programs14 Additional Expectations Candidates must be present for 90% of all face-to-face hours as required by state law Extended sickness, family emergency, personal or professional conflicts will require you to drop the class In addition, all late work accrues a penalty that may ultimately affect successful completion of this course

Advanced Learning Programs15 Course Completion Candidates must meet program standards to receive credit. Candidates must present evidence of mastery for each standard

Advanced Learning Programs17 THINK! Is there any possibility you will want or need a higher degree in the near future? If so, it may be best for you to pursue the gifted endorsement program at a university.

Advanced Learning Programs19 Probationary Gifted Endorsement May be awarded to all candidates for 2010- 2011 cohort Non-renewable; expires at end of two years—candidates will receive a blue form from CCPS Certification Office Replaced by clear renewable endorsement with completion of program (3 modules) Call or email CCSD Certification specialist with certificate questions
