How is it determined? Actus Reus -> Guilty Act -> Have actually committed the crime Mens Rea -> Guilty Mind -> sufficiently intended to commit the crime Jury based on evidence and arguments makes a decision Judge makes a verdict based on decision

Factors of Criminal Behaviour Psychological, social, economical, political, self interest and genetic. Psychological -> influence behaviour and ability to control themselves Mental illness and not being able to recognise emotions 57% woman 39% males, mental illness in prisons. Economical -> Very common 33% male 50% female on government payments as income More likely to commit crimes such as robbery and larceny.

Situational + Social Prevention Situational -> Making crimes harder to commit, higher risk = lower gain techniques; CCTV, Bar Alarms and non-alcohol zones simple, relatively cheap, makes society safer, may not stop more dangerous crimes Social -> Addressing underlying social factors influencing crime. techniques; School funding, TAFE courses, parenting workshops these methods create opportunities, sense of worth, long term, avoid young/early contact with enforcement agencies
