StopPreviousNext Remember - the mouse You see different shapes on the screen when you move the mouse on the table. You will see an arrow when you move the mouse over the desktop tools menu bar You will see a capital letter i (I) when you move the mouse over normal text. You will see a hand shape when you move the mouse over parts of a web page. 6

StopPreviousNext 8 How to start the Internet Have a go Start the Internet - activity 1 1. Move the mouse over the Start button. 2. Do 1 click. 3. You will see the start menu.

StopPreviousNext 4. Look for the icon Internet Explorer 5. Put the mouse over the icon. 6. Do 1 click on the left mouse button. 7. The Internet will start and a web page will open. 9

StopPreviousNext 10 Example of a web page This is a picture of the first web page of the ABC web site. When a web page opens it fills the whole screen. The web site address for this page is www.abc.net.au

StopPreviousNext 11 Have a go Start the Internet - activity 2 1. Move the mouse over the icon Internet Explorer. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Press the Enter key. 4. The Internet will start and a web page will open.

StopPreviousNext 13 Have a go Link to a different web page - activity 3 1. Move your mouse over the word or picture you want to go to. 2. The mouse shape will change to the hand shape. 3. Do 1 click. 4. You will see a new web page.

StopPreviousNext 14 The parts of a web page Scroll bar Look for the scroll bar on the right side of your screen. You can use the arrows on the scroll bar to move the page up or down.

StopPreviousNext 15 There is a down arrow and an up arrow. You can use the down arrow to go down the web page. You can use the up arrow to go up the web page. Have a go Use the scroll bar - activity 4 1. Use the mouse. 2. Put the mouse over the down arrow. 3. Click and hold on the down arrow. 4. Put the mouse over the up arrow. 5. Click and hold on the up arrow.

StopPreviousNext 17 Tools The tools on the toolbar help you to use web pages. Back Move back to web pages you visited. Forward Move forward to pages you visited before. Stop Stop the page coming onto your screen.

StopPreviousNext 18 Refresh Get a new copy of the page you are looking at. Home Page Go to the first web page on your computer. Favorites Favorites is a list of your favorite web pages. You can add web pages to your Favorites list. You can use the Favorites list to go to your favorite website.

StopPreviousNext 19 Have a go Use the tools - activity 5 1. Use your mouse. 2. Put the mouse over the home page tool. 3. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 20 The address bar When you know an Internet website address you can type it into the address bar.

StopPreviousNext 21 Go back to the last web page Back You can move back to the last web page. Have a go Use the back - activity 6 1. Move your mouse over the back. 2. Do 1 click. 3. You will see the last web page you visited.

StopPreviousNext 22 How to change the size of the window There are 3 boxes in the top right corner of your screen. or

StopPreviousNext 23 Minimise You can use the minimise box to make the window appear only on the taskbar.

StopPreviousNext Have a go Use the minimise box - activity 7 1. Do 1 click on the minimise box. 2. The window will go to the task bar. 3. To see the whole window again Move the mouse to the task bar. Do 1 click on the box with the web page name. The web page will fill the whole window. 24

StopPreviousNext 25 Restore You can use the restore box to make the Internet window smaller.

StopPreviousNext 26 Have a go Use the restore box - activity 8 1. Do 1 click on the restore box. 2. The window will get smaller.

StopPreviousNext 27 Maximise You can use the maximise box to change the size of the window to fill the whole screen.

StopPreviousNext 28 Have a go Use the maximise box - activity 9 1. Do 1 click on the maximise box. 2. The window will fill the whole screen.
