HIV/AIDS AIDS is caused by a virus called the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The average time it takes from HIV infection to turn into AIDS related symptoms is 10 yrs.

HIV/AIDS Progression HIV infection HIV takes hold in the body and multiplies. Asymptomatic HIV Within 2-4 weeks after infection many people have flu-like symptoms. Symptomatic HIV Night sweats, weight loss, fatigue, swollen glands. AIDS Low number of T-cell causing the immune system to collapse.

HIV Testing A person could test positive in as early as 2 weeks from infection. Within 6 months 95% of people with HIV test positive for the virus

How does HIV spread? Most transmission occurs through: Drug use with shared needles Sexual activity when semen or vaginal fluids are transferred. Mother to child transmissions Accidental contact with contaminated blood or body fluids.
