Workshop on Data Policies Objectives Update on recent developments in national/regional polices affecting GI use Link GI policy to wider debates (enlargement, environment, information society) Develop framework to inform policy at EU (e.g. INSPIRE) and national/regional levels, including accession countries.

The six GINIE / INSPIRE commandments : data shall be collected and maintained where done most effectively seamlessly combinable across sources and Europe scalelessly combinable barrierlessly abundant for good governance discoverable together with its fitness for purpose and usage condition easy to understand, well documented, user- friendly displayable

The ultimate objective of the workshop identify the data policy components which will enable – eventually and efficiently an access – technically - financially - legally easy to "general interest" geographic information by – citizens, governments and value added resellers

Preliminary questions? What is data Policy and for who? Which data? – public sector, general interest Which roles and which actors – who order, pay and accept – who ensure delivery according to best practice – who do the work Which legitimacy, regulation

Workshop deliverables recommendations from the group in depth analysis of the countries represented template for analysis of “all” European countries all PPT presentation uploaded on GINIE websites a WS report within 6 weeks (Fr and En) an executive summary (max 8 pages) in 12 languages
