TSG-S PMT Evolution Workshop – Seoul, Korea Page 7 3GPP2 Vision Document – SC.R5001-0 v1.0 Overview - Market needs drive the long-term evolution of wireless networks including competitive costs for capital expenditures and operating costs per byte New concepts and technologies emerge out of research and are subjected to the scrutiny of both the wireless industry and the market The vision is based on future-proof concepts and technologies that are likely to succeed in the market place Shared Vision Document with ITU-T Special Study Group The 3GPP2 Vision: looks beyond what is described in the 3GPP2 Evolution document attempts to provide guidance to 3GPP2 on new capabilities, features, and interoperability requirements provides an evolution path for the core network and RAN elements including new interfaces and technologies may be considered or incorporated into the 3GPP2 Evolution plan Under investigation Multi-carrier configurations for further increases in data rates MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) Antenna Comprehensive End-to-End QoS Migration to IPv6 IP Based Radio Access Signaling and Distributed Mobility Management Development of advanced applications based on enablers such as geo-location, broadcast/multicast, VoIP, etc. Seamless session mobility across access domains Security and network/service enhancement to improve application offerings

TSG-S PMT Evolution Workshop – Seoul, Korea Page 9 Introduction to Release Planning Release Planning Release definition: Subset of 3GPP2 Workplan consisting of items targeted for the current release, held in the 3GPP2 Workplan database – end-to-end delivery of features and services Each Release will be socialized across all TSGs for review and comment prior to approval by the TSG-S and final approval by the Steering Committee (SC) Release publication cycle will be targeted for every 18 months System Release Guide (SRG) – provides an overview of and reference to a release of the 3GPP2 developed mobile wireless telecommunication system capabilities, features, and services Work Items for a specific release Critical Work Items Those which have high enough importance to hold-up the release if not completed All others Release 4 Scheduled for 4Q-2005
