2 THE ROLE OF INTELLIGENCE  Intelligence is the ability to interpret and understand everyday situations and to use prior experiences when faced with new situations or problems.  *Interactions with family members, availability of play things and encouragement can promote intelligence*

3 METHODS OF LEARNING  Incidental Learning-unplanned  Trial and error learning-trying solutions before finding one that works  Imitation-watching and copying others  Directed learning-learning that is taught

4 CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT  Children learn concepts and categories in stages.  Ex. All round food is a cookie  Intellectual activity is broken into 7 areas: See Pages 384-391
