So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires. 13 And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. Romans 6:11-13a

But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness. 14 For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:13b-14

15 What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not! 16 Do you not know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey— Romans 6:15-16a

of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were entrusted to, Romans 6:16b-17

18 and having been liberated from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness. Romans 6:18

What is substance abuse? addiction, bondage. it’s mainly associated with drugs or alcohol. The biblical word for this type of addiction is called “lust.”

Where does it come from? The short answer is it’s root is sin. it is the result of influences from the world, the flesh and the devil. it can come from a gradual surrender to temptation.

What is the cure? only jesus can supply a person with the correct weapons. Your belief in God’s provision is the key to beginning the process of breaking free of substance abuse and addiction. The cure is to put off the flesh.

the bible does not say, “thou shalt not drink.” Churches differ widely on alcohol consumption. Yes, wine consumption was a part of the normal life of people of the Bible. Wine of the Bible was diluted.
