Chinese Massacre of 1871 October 24, 1871-over 500 Anglos & Latinos rob and murder residents of Los Angles’ Chinatown Almost every resident attacked or mobbed 23 killed Triggered by the killing of Robert Thompson, a local rancher

Chinese Exclusion Act 1882- law was passed preventing Chinese immigrants from becoming citizens Prevented the Chinese community from growing and assimilating into American society Act was repealed in 1943 by the Magnuson Act, which allowed a quota of 105 Chinese immigrants per year. Many workers’ unions were in favor of the act because it made jobs easier to find.

Rock Springs Massacre 1885 in Rock Springs, Wyoming Riot between Chinese immigrant miners and White miners over Chinese workers being paid lower wages. At least 28 Chinese dead and 15 wounded 16 of the white miners were arrested
