Arabic During the month of October we led many activities with the children: The Bus project: the children had fun making a bus in various centers of the classroom (Art & blocks) and labeled its different parts (steering wheel, wheels, seats, windows and door). They also came up with the idea of putting the chairs together to make a big real bus. Then we role- played the driver picking up the children from their homes. They also learnt two songs about rising in the morning and going to school “Bus” and “Tol3et El-Shams”. Sharing time: “Sharing small moments”: in a whole group, the children sit and share one thing they enjoyed doing during the week-days - answering the question “What do you like to share about?”. The teachers emphasize the speaking protocol according to which the children take turns and respect each other’s sharing. KG1B Highlight s 31 st October

Arabic Read-Aloud post activity: “Bus Ranroun wel Am Hassoun” and “Fi Saff El Rawda ”: After reading the story many times the children re-told it while sitting in two groups and looking at the illustrations. Movement & Vocabulary: “Weather Game”: With the 1st rain we introduced the Weather by moving and answering the question: “How is the weather today?” The children have to ask about one aspect of the weather saying: “Is there … today?” (Sun, cloud, coldness, rain) and then they go inspecting it. Read aloud post activity: “I Love The Sun, but...” We read a story about the sun. Then the children were asked to predict where the sun goes and draw about it. KG1B Highlight s 31 st October

Two groups of students in kg1b are working with the piano. After exploring and sharing their ideas, they are presented with several provocations. The first is to listen to and watch a series of videos of professional piano players, making observations about how they are playing, and what kind of sound they are making: sometimes it is gentle, sometimes loud and strong; sometimes it is fast and light. The videos illicit a variety of reactions, from spontaneous dancing, to wanting to play the piano the same way, with gentle fingers, with fast fingers, using different parts of the keyboard. A second provocation takes the children to the Middle School to meet the grand piano. They watch as someone plays, watching both the player’s actions, and the action, of the piano. Then they play the grand piano themselves. Our study of the piano will continue with further provocations including a look at reading and writing, and playing and singing. Another group of children have been building experience with the recorder, making a variety of sounds: using their breath in different ways, expressing a variety of ideas: what is a good sound, what is too loud; and emotions: making someone feel better, chasing away a vampire. This group is beginning a study with provocations designed to highlight where the sound comes from, how we change the sound by covering the holes, and how we use these sounds to communicate.
