1 September 30, 2009 You’re the Sub September 30, 2009 You’re the Sub Read the prompt below and respond in your spiral notebook. Write a two-paragraph story about a day in class in the first person (using the pronoun “I”). Write from the point of view of the substitute teacher you had last Friday.

3 Learning How to Read a Textbook It will save you time and help you understand the material and the chapter better. In high school, college and especially in the workplace, understanding manuals and textbooks will enhance your understanding of the subject matter.

4 Pre-reading Handout Pre-reading Handout What is the title of the chapter? Read the introduction. List the two topics you are most excited to learn about in this chapter. Sketch the graphic organizer in the space below (Page 75). List the headings for each section in the chapter.

5 Look at the pictures in the chapter. Select the one that you find most interesting. Write one sentence that explains how you think the picture relates to the chapter. Read that chapter summary. Write one sentence that explains what you think is the main idea of the chapter.
