Elements and Principles Iris M. Robles

“Report From Rockport” The variety in the piece Report from Rockport by Stuart Davis is shown by all of the different types of lines. There are obvious and implied lines through out the whole painting. The colors in the picture are mingling around each other giving it depth.

“The Infant Prince Baltasar Carlos Riding a Horse” The movement of the horse and the clouds in “The Infant Prince Baltasar Carlos Riding a Horse” by Diego Velazquez de Silva is shown by the way the clouds seem to be drifting also the way the horse looks as it's ready to gallop away. The texture in the background seems to look natural and smooth like someone had painted it with oils.

"Formes et couleurs" Auguste H. Thomas shows pattern in his painting “Formes et couleurs” by the blue border around the deer, the shrubs, the glasses on the bottom holding the grapes and the spots on the deer which is also the focal point [emphasis]. The lines are mostly thin and short there's hardly any bold or long lines.

“Loch Katrine” William Henry Fox Talbot (British, 1800-1877) William Henry Fox Talbot adds unity in his photograph “Loch Katrine” everything in the picture seems to fit together. Space is also shown towards the back because both of the rocks add a feeling of depth.

“View from a Carriage Window” František Kupka (Czech, 1871-1957) In this painting František Kupka shows proportion by the way the big boulder rocks are the size of the rocks toward the back of the painting. It has big over lapping form s making it look as if your actually looking out of of the carriage window.

Homage to Gogol. Marc Chagall (French, born Belarus. 1887- 1985) In this painting by Marc Chagall it shows value through the different shades of black on the man. His arm is the only part with the most shades of gay. The way the man is kinda hunched over gives it a circular rhythm.

Study for a Composition Theo van Doesburg (Christian Emil Marie Küpper) (Dutch, 1883-1931) In this painting Theo Van Doesburg shows balance because if you were to fold this each side would be the exact same. There isn't any big overlapping figures just small irregular ones that create shape.
