SQXF Winding Test Proposal Concept at LBNL Dan Cheng Sept 17, 2013

SQXF Winding Test Proposal Uses the regular HQ winding mandrel as a baseline – Can reuse most tooling components – A few parts need to be fabricated – A few parts need to be modified or adjusted Sept 17, 2013 Dan Cheng - SQXF Short Winding Test2
3
HQ Winding Tooling Modifications Sept 17, 2013 Dan Cheng - SQXF Short Winding Test3 Need to fill space from 120mm to 150mm dia
4
HQ Winding Tooling Modifications Sept 17, 2013 Dan Cheng - SQXF Short Winding Test4 Need to modify clamping rig mount positions and hole locations

Fabrication Concept for Mandrel Spacer We have stainless steel “blanks” that were originally designed for HQ end part fabrication – ID 120.0 mm, OD 150.7 mm (12” long) These can be cut and machined with hole patterns to have a net 36” long mandrel at ~150mm diameter Sept 17, 2013 Dan Cheng - SQXF Short Winding Test5

Fabrication Proposal Status Sept 17, 2013 Dan Cheng - SQXF Short Winding Test6 LBNL Shop is estimating the cost of modifying the stainless parts RP parts can be built within a week – Some parts models aren’t “intact”, still need some work to clean up models – Cost still to be determined, pending model cleanup Some design work will be used for moving the clamp bar mount still to be performed
