The circulatory system The circulatory system is an organ system that passes nutrients (such as amino acids, electrolytes and lymph), gases, hormones, blood cells, etc. to and from cells in the body to help fight diseases and help stabilize body temperature and pH to maintain homeostasis. The main components of the human cardiovascular system The main components of the human cardiovascular system are the heart, the veins, and the blood vessels. It includes: the pulmonary circulation, a "loop" through the lungs where blood is oxygenated; and the systemic circulation, a "loop" through the rest of the body to provide oxygenated blood. An average adult contains five to six quarts (roughly 4.7 to 5.7 liters) of blood, which consists of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
4
Pulmonary circulation is the portion of the cardiovascular system which carries oxygen- depleted blood away from the heart, to the lungs, and returns oxygenated blood back to the heart. Pulmonary circulation
5
Systemic circulation Systemic circulation is the part of the cardiovascular system which carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body, and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart. This physiologic theory of circulation was first described by William Harvey. William Harvey.William Harvey.

William Harvey William Harvey (1 April 1578 – 3 June 1657) was an English physician who was the first person to describe completely and in detail the systemic circulation and properties of blood being pumped to the body by the heart. Back

Coronary circulation Coronary circulation is the circulation of blood in the blood vessels of the heart muscle (the myocardium). The vessels that deliver oxygen-rich blood to the myocardium are known as coronary arteries. The vessels that remove the deoxygenated blood from the heart muscle are known as cardiac veins.
8
Heart The heart pumps oxygenated blood to the body and deoxygenated blood to the lungs. In the human heart there is one atrium and one ventricle for each circulation, and with both a systemic and a pulmonary circulation there are four chambers in total: left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium and right ventricle.
9
Cardiovascular diseases Heart diseases or cardiovascular diseases are the class of diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels (arteries and veins). Most countries face high and increasing rates of cardiovascular disease. Each year, heart disease kills more Americans than cancer. There is therefore increased emphasis on preventing atherosclerosis by modifying risk factors, such as healthy eating, exercise and avoidance of smoking.

Smoking is bad for your health. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths. It is also responsible for many other cancers and health problems. These include lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke and cataracts. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Your smoke is also bad for other people Your smoke is also bad for other people - they breathe in your smoke secondhand and can get many of the same problems as smokers do.
12
Quit Smoking Quitting smoking can reduce your risk of these problems. The earlier you quit, the greater the health benefit.

Healthy eating Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person. Factors that might tip the balance include your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high-fat foods and not being physically active. Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy. People who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. It can delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems. The Medical Hazards of Obesity
