DCF/DFES/BWF Partner Training SectionNovember 23, 201111 Chris applied for W-2. After an informal assessment, she was determined to be job ready. During the informal assessment she stated that she thought she could find a job and she’d like to work to support her two school-age kids. She has worked in the past, mostly in entry level jobs in the retail and service industries. She completed high school, and has no other education or training. She declined the BST. She was assigned to up-front activities. During up-front, the W- 2 agency provided her with some job leads, and she found other leads on her own. After completing most of the required hours of up- front activities, she still has not found employment. What issues would you consider when determining if Chris would be appropriate for a CMJ placement?

DCF/DFES/BWF Partner Training SectionNovember 23, 201112 Pat has applied for W-2. The informal assessment that you have completed with him indicates that he is job ready, however Pat tells you that last year he injured both of his knees while working in a warehouse. The employer did cover some of the physical therapy he participated in, but that coverage has been exhausted and Pat says he “still feels it like an ice pick to the knees when the weather changes.” He expects that although he can walk around decently enough, he should really be checked out by a doctor before he could do any of the physically demanding warehouse type work he has done in the past. He declined the BST, but is willing to complete a formal assessment. What issues would you consider when determining if Pat would be appropriate for a CMJ placement?

DCF/DFES/BWF Partner Training SectionNovember 23, 201113 Maria applied for W-2 and met with the Resource Specialist. She did not have child care available when she applied, so she was not assigned up-front activities. You meet with her today and determine that she is eligible for W-2. She reports during the interview that she now has child care in place for her two children, ages 3 and 4. Ongoing issues with relatives who provided child care in the past was a major reason that she lost her last job as a beginner pet groomer at PetSmart. She is now using a certified provider. Your informal assessment indicates that she has a high school diploma and her recent work history gives her skills necessary for entry level employment in your local labor market. She says she has no other barriers and declines the BST. What issues would you consider when determining if Maria would be appropriate for a CMJ placement?
14
DCF/DFES/BWF Partner Training SectionNovember 23, 201114 Leshaun applies for W-2. He was recently laid off after 4 years from his job as a mechanic when a local car dealership closed. He indicates he has no barriers to employment, but he does not have his high school diploma. He completed all the up-front activities he was assigned, and has worked with the job developer to find another job, but had no offers of employment. Your local labor market currently has limited opportunities in the automotive field while having an abundance of job seekers with skills similar to Leshaun’s. What issues would you consider when determining if Leshaun would be appropriate for a CMJ placement?

DCF/DFES/BWF Partner Training SectionNovember 23, 201115 Kendra is completing her CMC placement. When she applied for W- 2 she was placed directly into a CMC. Prior to her pregnancy, she had worked in a variety of office settings through a temporary service. Your informal assessment shows no indication of barriers and she reports that she has her high school diploma and completed a semester at the technical college, focusing on some of her general education requirements, before leaving school to work fulltime. Kendra does not presently have any child care arrangements in place. What issues would you consider when determining if Kendra would be appropriate for a CMJ placement?
