Watershed Improvement Plan (WIP) WIP is not concrete and steel construction – Substantial expansion of our environmental program to improve water quality and treat highway runoff. – It’s integral to our success as a highway agency. – Great opportunity for diversification in the private sector. – SHA is recognized as a national leader in this area.
8
Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) TMDL as “pollution diet.” A primary strategy to deliver the WIP. – Includes stream restoration, tree plantings, enhancing and retrofitting old stormwater facilities and constructing new facilities such as bioswales. – Planting thousands of trees for cleaner water to flow into the Chesapeake Bay watershed. – Partnering on environmental projects. – Several design-build contracts for stream restoration and storm water management facilities underway. Significant opportunities for business expansion.
