Heisenberg The Uncertainty Principle
2
We mean this guy
3
Just a Few Fun Facts Werner Heisenberg was able to play master compositions on his piano by age thirteen. He loved hiking, literature, philosophy, music, and most of all science. He was able to teach himself calculus as a teenager. He enrolled into the University of Munich in 1920 to receive his doctorates degree in three years by 1923.
4
Biography Werner Heisenberg (5 December 1901 – 1 February 1976) His wife’s name was Elisabeth Schumacher He had seven kids He resided in Munich, Germany
5
Heisenberg played a large role in heading Germany’s research on the applications of nuclear fission during WWII He helped largely in the reconstruction of West Germany after the war.
6
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle A huge problem with quantum experiments is the seemingly unavoidable tendency of people to influence the situation and velocity of small particles. This can happen just by a scientist observing a particle, and it makes scientists angry.
7
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle Scientists made big, elaborate machines like particle accelerators that take away physical human influence from the process of accelerating a particle’s energy of motion. But the machines didn’t work because even the light used to be able to see the particles affected the behavior of the particles.
8
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle
9
So Heisenberg developed his Uncertainty Principle It doesn’t matter what we do, there is no way that we can observe a quantum particle(quanta) without affecting it.
10
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle Example of a blindfolded man with a medicine ball.
11
Heisenberg is often considered as one of the most influential people in nuclear physics, particle physics and quantum field theory. He received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1932 for his work with physics.
12
How many kids did Heisenberg have? Name one fun fact about Heisenberg. What year did he receive a Nobel Piece Prize? What was Heisenberg’s discovery in this PowerPoint called? What University did Heisenberg go to? (It is named after the city he lived in) Bonus Question worth no points. What was the name of the dude in second slide that we said wasn’t the real Heisenberg?
