What is the Ramp Editor The ramp editor is a tool for creating a polyline that follows down the center of a practical underground ramp access structure. (Note – These Slides are intended to demonstrate the capacity and the use of the ramp editor and are not intended to be a rigid step by step design guide for a practical ramp).

Start By Activating the Point Editor

Next Instruct the Program to Create a Polyline

Enter the Coordinates of the Ramps Start Point and Apply

Now Click on File and Pick the Ramp Editor from the Drop Down

Enter the Direction – Slope – And Distance the Ramp Will Run

Under Options Make Sure the Curve is Not Selected Re-Click on it If it is. (The curve Option toggles Off and On)

Preview to See If You Like the Creation. If we like it Click Apply

Now We Get Ready to Put a Switch-Back in Our Ramp Go to Options and Click the Curve Ramp on.

Select Whether You Want to Switch Back Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise

Set the Editor to Sweep Around 180 Degrees during the Switch-Back Note that the Ramp will Continue to Change elevation During the switch Back unless I Turn the dip Off.

We Do Our Usual Preview Check Before Applying

Now Prepare for Another Straight Away Distance Note that the Ramp direction will Be where-ever it Came out of the Turn. (Of Course We Better Make Sure The Curve Ramp Is off Under Options).

Now Lets Get Ready to Switch- Back Around Counter-Clockwise

We Set Another 180 Degree Sweep to Switch-Back

Of Course We Can Also Spiral the Ramp Set the Ramp to Curve

This Time We Specify a Distance for the Ramp to Continue in a Spiral

We Preview In this case we Might decide That doubling Back counter- clockwise Made for a Real crumby Turn.

Next We’ll Turn and Spiral the Ramp Clockwise.

When We Are Done We Shut Down Our Tools and Save

Note That a 10% Positive Slope Means the Ramp Went Up.

Of Course All Of This Leaves Unanswered an Important Question What Was He Smoking When He Designed A Ramp Like That?
