1. Searching Australian records. Once you have chosen Australia as the source of the records that you want to search. There are additional filters you can choose from. You can filter by location, collection and time period.

6. Searching Census Records. To search the UK census collections click on the link under Census collections. You can then choose to limit your search by year or years. Include location to limit searches to Scotland for example. Please note that you only see the record details for Scotland and not the actual image.

12. Hints for searching census records. Be prepared for different spellings. Search more than one decade to compare the different information. Details may be incorrect.

14. Printing Image pages. Click on View Image (from list of results) or View original image (from original record). If a screen appears asking you to click here, click on the first click here in large, underlined, coloured print. If not, go straight to the next step. Click on the Print icon at the top right of the screen. Wait for the image to download. Click on the little arrow next to the print icon (5th icon to the right, at the top of the new screen). From the drop-down menu select Page Setup. Change the print orientation to Landscape. Change the margins to 0.5 for all, i.e. left, top, right and botton, then click OK. Go back to the print icon at the top of the page, click on the little arrow and select Print.

15. By clicking on share you can email the record to yourself or a friend. You can access the record for 14 days.

16. Ancestry Private Edition. If you choose to have a private subscription in your home you can construct your own family tree online. You can add photos, documents and other media. You can also be connected to other members and share research.

21. Person profile You can view a persons profile which will show: Major events: i.e. birth, marriage etc. Source citations. To the right of the screen you can view other Family members.
