4. Risk Factors a RISK FACTOR for disease is anything that increases one’s risk of getting a particular disease.

5. Can You Stop Diseases? You CANNOT change your heredity and the genetic makeup that can cause chronic illness in the future. For example: If you have a strong family history of diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease, you are more likely to develop these diseases later in life.

6. Chronic Disease Chronic Disease = Degenerative Disease ▫They often take years to develop and get worse over time. Cardiovascular disease and cancer are two examples.

8. Appraise Behaviors Around the room are 10 difference scenarios. Read the brief information about a person and then record the healthy or unhealthy behaviors described. If behaviors are unhealthy you should write how the behavior could simple be improved.

9. Homework You will be creating a family tree that goes back to at least their great-grandparents. Include siblings, parents, grandparents, and great- grandparents. Record their name, age, health status, and any type of health issues they have or have faced. If someone has passed away they should record what caused the death. (this could be a cancer, or simply just old age)
